About the show

The Lowdown

Remember Job? The two-hander that had the whole city arguing on the sidewalk afterward? Max Wolf Friedlich is back, and this time he has brought Robert Pattinson along as an executive producer, which is the kind of sentence you only get to write about downtown theater.

The Holes takes place in a run-down bar in a rapidly gentrifying city upstate. There is a padlocked room out back. Inside it: pleasure, relief, and possibly something a lot worse. Michael Herwitz directs, reuniting the Job creative team, and the cast is stacked with Bubba Weiler, Grantham Coleman, Tina Benko, and Jack Mulhern.

Friedlich writes the kind of play where two people talk and you slowly realize the floor is gone. Expect shame versus desire, tradition versus progress, and a lot of very uncomfortable laughing.

This is a strictly limited six-week run at The Wild Project on East 3rd Street — a room small enough that there is no bad seat and no hiding. Previews start September 8, opening night is September 22, and the whole thing is done by October 18. Blink and it is gone.

Won a seat to The Holes for the price of a deli lunch? Struck out a dozen times trying? Either way, the next New Yorker hitting refresh on the lottery wants to hear about it. Be the first on the board.
