About the show

The Lowdown

An actor shows up late to a sound studio for a last-minute audiobook gig, gets handed a ghost story to narrate, and slowly figures out the horror isn't staying on the page. That's the setup for Jamie Armitage's headphone-horror show at the Minetta Lane, Audible's downtown home for exactly this sort of experiment. You wear headphones. The scares come from inside them. It's a clever bit of stagecraft — the kind of thing that only works live, in the dark, in a room full of strangers all flinching at the same second. Armitage writes and directs. Previews start in late September ahead of an October opening in the Village. If you've ever been alone in an apartment convinced you heard something, this one is going to find that exact nerve and press on it. Come for the gimmick, stay because you cannot tell where the sound is coming from.
