About the show

The Lowdown

Some uncles teach you to fish. Ryan J. Haddad's uncle Charlie taught him to love a good show. In Good Time Charlie, arriving at The Public Theater's Martinson Hall, Haddad turns that inheritance into a solo piece spanning more than thirty years of gay men growing up, coming out, falling in love, and treating a Broadway cast album like scripture.

Directed by Danny Sharon, it's a generous, funny, big-hearted memory play about the people who hand us our obsessions and the ones we become because of them. Haddad has built a career out of disarming an audience and then quietly breaking its heart, and this is him doing exactly that — one story, one stage, no place to hide.

The Public is where a lot of New York's best new work meets its first real audience, and a Haddad solo show is a hot ticket. First previews September 24.
