About the show

The Lowdown

The whole thing is played by a company of fifteen actor-musicians who never leave the stage, passing instruments and characters between them like a folk session that gradually breaks your heart. Clark’s score sounds like it has always existed somewhere on the Cornish coast. Compton directs his own book and co-lyrics.

The North American premiere runs at the Public Theater’s Newman Theater, October 8 through November 15, 2026. New York casting had not been announced at the time of writing — we will update this page the moment it drops.
