Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.
Where to Buy Tickets
The Lowdown
Little Red Riding Hood, except the wolf is the least of her problems and everybody involved is wearing considerably less than a cloak.
Petite Rouge is Company XIV doing the thing Company XIV does: taking a fairy tale you learned in kindergarten and rebuilding it out of opera, burlesque, aerial silks, baroque strings and an unreasonable number of feathers. The troupe calls its house style Baroque Burlesque, which in practice means classically trained dancers and singers, candlelit tables, a cocktail in your hand, and a show that is beautiful for about ten seconds before it turns filthy.
Théâtre XIV in Bushwick is a 164-seat room built for exactly this, close enough that the performers can watch you decide whether to make eye contact. Runtime is about 90 minutes with one intermission, tickets start around $36, and it is strictly 21 and over with valid ID. Expect haze, strobe and incense.
It has been running since February and closes on October 31, which is the most on-brand closing date a show like this could ask for.
