The Lowdown
The year is 1933. Berlin is under martial law, political activism has just become a crime punishable by death, and a young Gestapo officer hauls in a philosophy graduate student for questioning. What unfolds is a nervy chess match of wits, fear, and the stubborn human need to connect — inspired by the real-life arrest of Hannah Arendt. It’s history with a pulse, and it does not let go.
Directed by Ari Laura Kreith, the production runs September 12 through October 25 in 59E59’s Theater A, an intimate 196-seat house where every whispered threat lands three rows deep. If you like your theater smart, suspenseful, and impossible to shake off on the subway ride home, mark your calendar now.
