Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

Elf Lyons, the British comedian The Telegraph put on its list of the 50 funniest people of the century, is finally crossing the Atlantic, and she is bringing the show that won her the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show. The Woman on the Edge plays SoHo Playhouse from September 24 through October 18, with opening night on September 27.
The premise is delightfully unhinged. After the collapse of her engagement, Elf is too heartbroken to perform the show herself, so one of her own characters steps in to do it for her. What follows is an autobiographical (and, she insists, in no way complicated) comedy about love that swerves through Vertigo, Apollo 13, and the opera Pagliacci, with a costume budget that appears to have gone entirely to one enormous dress and a crescent moon.
This is comedy with real theatrical bones, the kind that has fans of both stand-up and downtown theater nodding at each other in the lobby. SoHo Playhouse on Vandam Street is a 199-seat house, so it is intimate enough that when she looks at you, she is looking at you.
Westbeth Entertainment and Mick Perrin Worldwide produce. Five stars from Broadway Baby, The List, The Telegraph, and Time Out are already on the poster; we will let you know if a rush or lottery shows up to go with them.
