Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

The Lowdown
On Monday he ate through one apple. By the weekend he had eaten through the whole Union Square food scene. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show puts Eric Carle's picture books on stage with big, bright puppets, and the caterpillar is every bit as snacky as you remember.
The show strings together several Carle favorites, so the little ones get more than one story for the price of a ticket, all in 55 minutes with no intermission. That is right about the attention span of a three-year-old and the snack budget of a parent. The DR2 Theatre on East 15th Street is a 99-seat room, which means nobody gets stuck in the back squinting at a very small bug.
Performances are running now through November 8, 2026. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, and maybe eat lunch first. You will get hungry.
