About the show

The Lowdown

Courtroom drama, but make it farce. Show Trial, a world premiere by Laura Zlatos, plays The Tank in Midtown from October 15 to November 8, 2026, with opening night on Saturday, October 17.

The source material is real and grim: the 1950 Prague trial of Milada Horáková, the Czech resistance leader the communist regime put on trial for show. Zlatos works from the actual court transcripts, translated into English for the first time, and turns the state's propaganda into something closer to a sketch show, complete with choreographed confessions, scripted testimony and a healthy disregard for reality. One woman stands alone against the whole machine.

Tom Costello directs. It runs about 100 minutes with no intermission, which is a lot shorter than the original proceedings.

If you like your political history with a dark laugh and a small room, The Tank on West 36th Street is your kind of place. Go before the verdict comes in.
