About the show

The Lowdown

Meet Jen, a third-grade teacher running on about four hours of sleep and the fumes of a classroom coffee pot. Meet Arthur, who designs playgrounds for a living and is still haunted by a loss he never got over. And meet Clara, his teenage daughter, who is writing songs she isn't quite ready to sing out loud. That is Pretend It's Pretend, a new play by Emma Watkins at Lincoln Center Theater's LCT3.

Watkins writes about the teachers who learn every kid's name, the dads who mix up protecting someone with loving them, and the kids who end up carrying more than they should. Annie Tippe directs. Casting hasn't been announced yet.

It plays the Claire Tow Theater, the small rooftop house above the Vivian Beaumont, with previews from January 26, 2027, opening night February 11, and a final performance March 14. LCT3 tickets are famously cheap, so this is the rare Lincoln Center outing where you can afford the pre-show dinner too.
