A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

Three strangers. One tiny wooden shelter. Zero personal space. Lean-To pitches its tent at 59E59 Theaters this September - a very funny, quietly big-hearted play about the weird intimacy of being stuck in the woods with people you just met.
Here is the setup: an alarmingly over-prepared hiker and a couple who forgot roughly everything are forced to share a rustic lean-to for the weekend. They bond over granola, shared supplies, a mutual need to escape the city, and - obviously - Britney Spears. For one night around the campfire, total strangers get that rare thing: an actual, honest human connection. And then something else starts to spark, and it is not the kindling.
It is the kind of small-cast, big-feelings comedy that Off-Broadway does better than anywhere, and 59E59 is a cozy, easy-to-love room right in Midtown East. If your idea of camping is a hotel with a nice view, this is the safest possible way to experience the great outdoors - no bug spray required. Dates, tickets, and subway directions are below.
