About the show

The Lowdown

Larry Yee has spent almost twenty years as the beating heart of the Yee Fung Toy Family Association, a fraternal club in San Francisco's Chinatown. To his daughter Lauren — a playwright who lit out for New York — the whole thing looks like a beautiful, baffling relic. Then Larry vanishes, and Lauren has to chase him through a wild, funny, slightly magical version of her own family history to get him back.

King of the Yees is Lauren Yee's “kind of true” comedy about what we inherit, what we roll our eyes at, and what we'd actually run through a wall to keep. It's warm, it's strange, and it does not sit still for a second. Tony winner Francis Jue returns as Larry — a role he has been perfecting since the play's San Francisco and Chicago runs — joined by Kelly Marie Tran and Daniel K. Isaac, with Joshua Kahan Brody directing.

It plays Signature Theatre's Alice Griffin Jewel Box, a cozy 191-seat room on West 42nd where nobody sits far from the stage. Previews start October 6, opening night is October 19, and the run wraps November 15. If you have ever loved a parent and completely failed to understand them at the same time, this one is going to land.
