About the show

The Lowdown

Directed and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Spelling Bee, Fun Home), the show starred Grey Henson (Mean Girls) as Bigfoot, Crystal Lucas-Perry (Ain’t No Mo’) as Francine, Alex Moffat (Saturday Night Live) as the mayor, Katerina McCrimmon (Funny Girl) as Joanne, plus Jade Jones and Jason Tam. A co-production between Benson Drive Productions and Manhattan Theatre Club, it leaned hard into Ruffin’s signature warmth-meets-edge tone — the kind of show that asks you to root for the monster and then explains, with feeling, why he’s not actually one.
