The Lowdown
The premise is classic Manhattan dysfunction: a married couple decides to play god by setting their best friend up on a blind date. Naturally, the evening goes off the rails. The title character is the kind of person who leaves a trail of psychological wreckage while appearing perfectly harmless. It is a cynical, biting look at how we justify our own toxicity under the guise of being helpful. The pacing stays taut under Trip Cullman’s direction, and the cast handles the messy interpersonal fallout with enough cold precision to make you uncomfortable. It is a solid watch if you enjoy watching people ruin each other’s lives for two hours. Head over to the Hayes before June 14, 2026, or don’t.
