The Lowdown
Pre-Existing Condition is written by Marin Ireland and directed by Maria Dizzia, and its casting is the headline: the lead role rotates across the run between Lupita Nyong’o, Phillipa Soo, Susannah Flood, Hari Nef and Edie Falco. Same play, five completely different centres of gravity. If you have ever wanted a reason to see the same show twice, this is a good one.
It runs 75 minutes with no intermission at Greenwich House Theater on Barrow Street — a 149-seat West Village room where nobody is more than a few rows from the actor doing the hardest work of the night.
Previews start September 1, opening is September 4, and it closes October 25. Check which performer is on before you book.

Won a seat to Pre-Existing Condition for the price of a deli lunch? Struck out a dozen times trying? Either way, the next New Yorker hitting refresh on the lottery wants to hear about it. Be the first on the board.
