Stage Door
Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

The Lowdown
A thirty-year affair, told with the kind of honesty that makes an audience laugh first and wince about four seconds later. Clare Barron writes people who say the thing everyone else in the room is carefully not saying, and Too Bad For Her is her latest — a play about love, art, and building a life just outside the lines everyone else agreed to.
Anne Kauffman directs, which is a pairing worth noting: Barron's writing runs hot and strange, Kauffman has spent a career giving strange writing the room it needs, and Atlantic has been the house for both of them. Crystal Finn, Ivan Howe, Julius Rinzel and Stanley Simons play it.
It opens the new year at the Linda Gross Theater on West 20th, running January 9 through February 14, 2027, which means you can build a perfectly good winter evening around it: two hundred seats, Chelsea outside, and a play that will give you something to argue about over dinner afterward. We are looking forward to this one.
