The Wild Party
The jazz-and-gin-soaked bacchanal of Queenie and Burrs got a stunning Encores! treatment at New York City Center for two glorious weeks in March 2026. Andrew Lippa’s Tony-nominated 2000 musical — based on Joseph Moncure March’s scandalous 1928 poem — follows a prohibition-era house party that spirals from raucous to catastrophic with the inevitability of a hangover you absolutely deserve.
The 2026 staging brought together Tony winner Adrienne Warren and BOOP!’s Jasmine Amy Rogers as the volatile duo at the center of all this beautiful chaos, with Tony winner Tonya Pinkins joining the party. Lili-Anne Brown directed, Daryl Waters conducted, and Katie Spelman choreographed — and the City Center audience confirmed: this show still hits like a prohibition-era bootleg.
New York City Center’s Encores! series specializes in these limited-run concert stagings of under-produced classics, and The Wild Party reminded everyone why it deserves a full production. Filed away in the “shows that should run for real” category — right next to every other Encores! production in history.
