About the show

The Lowdown

Joel Schumacher’s 1987 flick about leather-clad bloodsuckers migrating to a beach town is now a musical, because Broadway refuses to let a single piece of IP remain un-sung. Two brothers drag their mother to the coast, only to realize the local teenage nightlife is literally predatory. The show leans hard into the aesthetic, featuring a rock score that hits the rafters and enough hairspray to deplete the ozone layer again. It is loud, unapologetically campy, and surprisingly faithful to the original’s leather-and-grease vibe. Go if you want a spectacle that prioritizes high-octane spectacle over nuance. It is pure, trashy fun for anyone who misses the eighties.
