About the show

The Lowdown

One actor, a bare stage and a whole town's worth of people. In The Amish Project, Tony winner Jonathan Groff plays every one of them: the neighbors, the families, the shopkeepers and the shaken outsiders, all trying to make sense of a terrible day in a close-knit Amish community.

Jessica Dickey's solo play is inspired by real events, and they happened close to home for Groff, who grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The story is less about the tragedy than about what came after it, when a grieving community chose forgiveness and left everyone watching to wonder whether they could ever do the same. Sarna Lapine directs.

Performances begin Wednesday, February 10, 2027 at the Broadhurst Theatre, 235 West 44th Street. Tickets go on sale through Telecharge on November 10, 2026, with a fan presale the day before.

If you have only ever seen Groff singing in a crown or running backwards through time in Merrily We Roll Along, this is your chance to watch him carry a show all by himself, no ensemble to hide behind. Bring tissues. Maybe two packs.
