About the show

The Lowdown

The premise is simple: two divorced people who despise each other find themselves in adjacent suites, which is basically the 1930s version of a bad subway commute where you cannot avoid eye contact. Whether the revival brings the necessary bite or just fancy costumes depends entirely on the casting, which remains a mystery. We have seen enough Coward revivals to know that if the chemistry is tepid, the whole thing just feels like a tedious dinner party with people you do not like. We will see if the production team can actually pull off this level of vitriol without making it feel like a museum piece. Keep your expectations grounded until the names hit the marquee.

Won a seat to Private Lives for the price of a deli lunch? Struck out a dozen times trying? Either way, the next New Yorker hitting refresh on the lottery wants to hear about it. Be the first on the board.
