About the show

The Lowdown

Some stories are too good to only tell once. Lost in Del Valle sold out SoHo Playhouse earlier this year, went off to charm the Edinburgh Fringe, and has now come back downtown for an encore — September 14 through October 14, 2026.

Ned Van Zandt wrote it and performs it alone, which is a nervy thing to do for ninety minutes and a lot more fun to watch than it sounds. The story takes him back to a small California town, a wildfire, a father who is not where anyone expected him to be, and a summer that quietly rearranged everything after it. Amir Arison directs, and the whole thing moves fast enough that you forget one person is doing all of it.

SoHo Playhouse holds under 200 people, so the room is close, the pauses land, and nobody is checking a phone. If you like a true story told well by someone who clearly still can't quite believe it happened to him, this is your kind of night.

Tickets are at SoHoPlayhouse.com, 15 Vandam Street. Go before October 14 — encores do not usually get encores.

Won a seat to Lost in Del Valle for the price of a deli lunch? Struck out a dozen times trying? Either way, the next New Yorker hitting refresh on the lottery wants to hear about it. Be the first on the board.
