The Lowdown
Kelli O’Hara and Rose Byrne spend two hours sipping champagne while waiting for an old flame to arrive from Paris. It is a 1925 Noël Coward comedy about bad manners and even worse decision-making. The plot is thin, but the dry wit holds up better than the subway air conditioning in July. Directed by Scott Ellis, the revival moves at a brisk pace that keeps the nostalgia from feeling like a chore. It is a sharp, polished look at how the upper crust handles a crisis. Go if you enjoy watching talented people act reckless in expensive clothes. Everyone else can stay home and drink their own cheap wine.
