Back to the Future: The Musical

The 2024 Broadway adaptation of the Robert Zemeckis trilogy. Roger Bart played Doc Brown to Casey Likes’ Marty McFly at the Winter Garden Theatre. The DeLorean special effect was the marketing hook; what surprised audiences was how much the show actually had to say about parent-child relationships, generations, and the things you only understand after you’ve left and come back. Closed in early 2026 after a respectable run.

Back to the Future: The Musical ran from August 3, 2023, to January 5, 2025, at the Winter Garden Theatre. For those still hunting for Back to the Future: The Musical Broadway tickets or trying to recall the details of the Back to the Future: The Musical lottery, the run has officially concluded. It spent over a year occupying a prime piece of real estate on 50th Street, but the DeLorean has finally left the garage. The production leaned hard into the spectacle of a flying car, prioritizing pyrotechnics over the grit we usually expect from a Midtown stage. While the score was functional, the show relied heavily on the audience’s collective nostalgia for 1985 rather than doing anything new with the source material. It was a loud, expensive nostalgia trip that kept the tourists happy while the rest of us navigated the usual post-theater congestion on 7th Avenue. Casey Likes did the heavy lifting as Marty, managing to capture the frantic energy of the role without becoming a caricature. It was a polished piece of theater tech, even if it lacked a soul of its own.
