Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

The Lowdown
Any show called Horsegirl & Cowdaddy gets my attention right away, and this one has the goods to back up the title. DJ Hills's new comedy comes to the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Playwrights Horizons from February 20 to March 21, 2027, presented by Soho Rep and Philadelphia's Wilma Theater.
Horsegirl is a trans woman in her thirties living a pretty routine life with her dad, Cowdaddy, in rural Pennsylvania. Then Bethel, a Teach for America fellow, rolls into town, and the two hit it off in a big way. What follows is a fantastical shake-up of everything Horsegirl thought she knew about home, love and what it means to be free right where you are.
Samora de la Brisa plays Horsegirl, Lindsay Smiling plays Cowdaddy and Ni-Ni plays Bethel. Adil Mansoor directs, and the design team includes puppets by Erik Ruin, which is always a good sign in my book.
It is a sweet, funny, slightly wild story in one of the coziest rooms in Midtown, and the run is only about a month long. Tickets go on sale November 17, so set a reminder, saddle up and get there early.
