Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

The Lowdown
It's 1975 in a dusty little Texas town, and the members of the Disciples of James Dean fan club are back at the five-and-dime to mark twenty years since their idol died. There will be nostalgia. There will be secrets. There will be at least one reunion that should have stayed a group text.
Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean started as Ed Graczyk's play and became Robert Altman's 1982 cult film with Cher, Sandy Dennis and Karen Black. Now it's a new musical, with music by Dan Gillespie Sells (Everybody's Talking About Jamie), lyrics by Shakina and a book and original concept by Ashley Robinson. Expect old wounds, big laughs and a surprising amount of grace for a story that happens mostly behind a lunch counter.
It plays Classic Stage Company on East 13th Street, with previews from February 11, 2027, opening night March 1, and a final performance March 28. Casting and director are still to come. CSC is an intimate room, so every seat is basically at the counter.
