Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

The Lowdown
Before the Kardashians, there were the Gabors, the family that was famous for being famous back when that was a brand-new idea. Beautiful Jolie Gabor, Her Glamorous Three Daughters, and Always the Happiness Is Life (yes, that is the whole title, and yes, we love it) is a new musical about the mother who built the legend.
Michael John LaChiusa wrote the book, music and lyrics, and the one and only Mary Testa plays Jolie, a Hungarian immigrant who came to America during World War II and decided persecution would never touch her family again. So she built them a glamorous life, partly out of shrewd choices and partly out of very good stories. The show asks what all that sparkle cost, and why we can't stop staring at celebrities.
Transport Group produces, Jack Cummings III directs and Alex Sanchez choreographs. Three daughters, one formidable mother, and enough diamonds to sink a yacht.
First preview June 11, opening June 27, closing July 18, 2027, at Theater 555 on West 42nd Street, a 160-seat house. Dahling, you'll want tickets.
