Stage Door
Full guide →When to go. Head straight out at curtain call. Two-show days are the worst bet at both performances — the cast rests through the matinee and is spent by the evening. A Sunday matinee is the best single bet, because it is a one-show day. In bad weather the barricades sometimes never go up at all.
Who comes out. Anywhere from nobody to most of the cast. Nobody can tell you in advance which three — not us, not the theatre. Treat any list that claims otherwise with suspicion.
What to bring. Tonight’s Playbill and a fine-tip Sharpie, held open to the page you want signed. Ask before you photograph anyone, and keep the pavement clear — it is a working door, not a red carpet.

The Lowdown
Rebecca wants a baby more than she wants almost anything. Hannah would sooner be hit by a bus. They are best friends, which is the problem, and they are about to spend four consecutive baby showers pretending otherwise while eating pastel cake.
Baby Shower Katie is Beth Hyland's new comedy, and the running joke — four showers, three different women named Katie — is doing more work than it looks like. Underneath the games and the gift bags are two women watching the lives they assumed they wanted drift out of alignment with the people they are turning into, plus a clear-eyed look at the absurd list of things mothers are supposed to be. It is irreverent and it is not remotely cynical.
Jaki Bradley directs the Primary Stages production, a co-world premiere with Round House Theatre. The script was developed in the Primary Stages Liff Lab, so it arrives already road-tested.
