About the show

The Lowdown

Every town has that one neighbor everybody talks about. In lucky/bird, it's Louise: a three-time widow, a local pariah, and the proud owner of the peacocks living on her porch. She lives in the Lucky, a close-knit Black community with a murky past that it honors every year with a summer parade.

On the eve of the parade, a mysterious stranger shows up at Louise's door, and the history the Lucky likes to keep tidy starts to stir. Audley Puglisi wrote this world premiere, which grew out of Ensemble Studio Theatre's Youngblood writers group, and Obie winner abigail jean-baptiste directs.

It plays Ensemble Studio Theatre on West 52nd Street in Hell's Kitchen. First preview is May 17, 2027, opening night is May 27, and the run closes June 13.

Peacocks, parades and secrets: put this one on your spring calendar now.
