After All These Years: The Musicals of Al Tapper

Some folks collect stamps. Al Tapper collected songs — decades of them — and now they all pile onto one Off-Broadway stage at the AMT Theater for a four-week party called After All These Years. Part concert, part comedy, part loving roast, it's a musical memoir of the composer, lyricist, playwright, and producer who never met a punchline he didn't want to set to music.

Tapper himself pops up on screen while a live cast — Lara Allison, Emily Taylor Kaufman, Dan Olson, and Nathan Pecchia — sings, jokes, and time-travels through a career packed with first loves, lost weekends, show-business dreams, and a little political satire for spice. Directed by Brian Childers and co-written with Tony Sportiello, it plays like your funniest uncle finally getting the band back together.

It's a short run at a cozy 199-seat house on West 45th, so grab a seat before the final bow on October 8. Come for the tunes, stay for the stories that probably should have stayed at the bar.
