About the show

The Lowdown

Charles Dickens handed us a boy who survives a rotten stepfather, a stint bottling wine as a child laborer, and roughly a hundred memorable weirdos on his way to figuring out where home actually is — and now that boy sings. Copperfield! The New Musical lands at The Duke on 42nd Street this fall, with Bobby Conte (of A Bronx Tale and Company) stepping into David’s worn-out shoes.

Jeffrey Scharf wrote the book, music, and lyrics; Gabriel Barre directs and choreographs; Sonny Paladino handles the orchestrations. Between them they’ve wrestled Dickens’ sprawling doorstop of a novel — the one he called his own favorite — into an evening about grit, found family, and the long haul from a miserable childhood to a life that turns out okay.

The Duke is a snug 199-seat house on 42nd Street, so every wide-eyed orphan glance and oily Uriah Heep sneer will land right in your lap. Previews start September 29, 2026, and opening night is set for October 19. Sign up early on the official site and you get first crack at a batch of $18.50 tickets — a wink at 1850, the year Dickens published the book. Please, sir, we’d like some more.
