And this isn’t a museum piece. Tom Jones (book and lyrics, not the Welsh one) reconceived his own classic before his passing: now it’s two boys, Matt and Lewis, and their two scheming mothers who build a fake feud — and a wall — to trick their sons into falling in love. Reverse psychology remains New York’s most renewable resource.
Tony winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Schmigadoon!) directs and choreographs, with new orchestrations by Sam Davis and scenic design by Jason Sherwood. Harvey Schmidt’s score still includes “Try to Remember,” which your grandmother can hum on command.
Previews begin October 22, 2026 at the Hayes Theater, with opening night set for November 16. It only took 66 years to move two miles uptown — which, honestly, checks out for crosstown traffic.
